Mark your calendar! Join us on Saturday June 5th for our Annual General Meeting and hear about the museum and events of the past year! 2020 was a challenging year for everyone but despite it all Daly House Museum is thriving. If you are interested in learning more about what Daly House Museum does or if you’re a new member, returning member, or have been a member for years, our AGM is a great way to stay in touch with us and hear all about how we have been doing.
Prior to the meeting guest speaker Dr. Gordon Goldsborough, President and Head Researcher of the Manitoba Historical Society will share the history of interesting little-known historical gems in Southwestern Manitoba. These sites are places that might escape one’s attention unless you know exactly where to look, and why they are important to the region. The AGM meeting will follow Dr. Goldsborough’s presentation.

Spoiler Alert!
Here is a sneak peak into the hidden gems you’ll learn about during Dr. Goldsborough’s presentation on June 5th!
The oldest surviving grain elevator in Canada stands at Elva in the southwestern corner of Manitoba. Built in the Fall of 1897, it was operated by the Lake of the Woods Milling Company, known for its Five Roses brand of flour. Upgraded with a new foundation and weigh scale in 1950, the elevator was sold to the Ogilvie Milling Company in 1954.
Re-sold five years later to Manitoba Pool Elevators, the little elevator was just too small and inefficient compared to much larger elevators that were being built by that time. Closed in late 1967 or early 1968, the elevator was sold and has stood empty for decades.
